At 8 months long, McMaster’s eHealth MSc internship is the longest of any comparable program!
Aligned with health informatics professional competencies defined by Digital Health Canada, the internship is a bridge between the classroom and the workplace and will strengthen your healthcare knowledge and business and tech skills. It’s an opportunity to explore careers in the digital health sector and gain paid work experience while earning your graduate degree.

With the support of a Career Development and Relationship Manager students develop the tools they need to secure an internship and graduate with 8 months of valuable work experience.
Internship preparation includes:
- Participating in a 10-week career course in Term 1 (September – December)
- Refining resumes and cover letters for applications
- Practicing interview techniques (mock interviews)
- Building personal networks
- Conducting independent internship job searches
- Attending 1:1 coaching sessions to help identify strengths and interests in the digital health sector
Securing an internship is a job application process that prepares students for what they can expect when they graduate.
The internship recruitment cycle (Term 3: January – May) involves students applying to jobs posted on our internal job board, interviewing with potential employers, receiving an offer and then signing an employment contract.
With the approval of the Career Development and Relationship Manager, students are also encouraged to use their own network to conduct independent job searches.
During the 4th and 5th terms of the eHealth MSc program (May – December), our interns work for a diverse group of employers; from small startups to all levels of government, non-profit community organizations, major hospitals in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA,) private sector technology vendors, pharma companies, consulting firms, university research groups, healthcare professional associations, primary care organizations and more. Internships are not confined to the GTHA region! Students may secure internships in their hometowns, provinces, and further afield.

Our eHealth interns are hired for a variety of roles including project, business, data, transformation, and business intelligence analysts and specialists, clinical and medical informatics interns, as well as research assistants and coordinators. Although securing a paid internship is not guaranteed, the salary range for interns is currently $20.00 -$26.00/hr.
