All full-time students are required to participate in an internship during the third and fourth terms of the program (May – December). The internship complements your course work and helps you develop important skills. If you are a thesis student we try to align it with your research interests.
Employers vary but are typically a private or public company, health care institution, consulting firm or government agency. Internships have tended to be located predominantly in the Greater Hamilton/Toronto area but students can participate anywhere in the world.
We work with employer partners and actively recruit for internship positions. We encourage employers to offer paid positions, but a position with a salary is not guaranteed. Students can also do an independent job search and propose an internship. Internships have to meet specific criteria and have to be approved by your advisor and the Relationship Manager.
Note that this requirement is not a “placement” and we can’t guarantee that every student will find an internship position.
There is a one-time internship fee of $1500 for all full-time students. This is separate from your tuition fees and is assessed at the beginning of the internship period (May 1).

- Development of employer partnerships
- Job postings and recruitment assistance
- Site visits
- Work term evaluations
- Employment skills workshops and coaching services
